Report Expression Editor Definitions

The following table describes the functions available in the Expression Editor. Reference Accessing the Report Expression Editor for additional information.

Component Description

Data Model

The Parent Data Member is the Data Model being used for this report. For example, General Exception, Product Exception, Process Exception, Change Request, Document record, etc. Clicking on this main folder will display all Fields, Internal Fields, and Child Data Members included in the Data Model which can later be applied to the report.

Expressions

There are four folders available for Expression Functions. To access choices associated with a particular folder, click the "+" to display the child options associated with the parent folder.

 

Folders

  • SmartSolve - Use this folder to build expressions based on current users, to strip HTML tags or to translate strings.
  • Hyperlinks - Use this folder specify a SmartSolve URL, a URL to launch a report or a URL for a current application. You can also specify various other SmartSolve Detail Pages such as; Internal Actor, Audit, Criteria, etc.)
  • Operators - Use this folder to apply algebraic functions such as arithmetic, comparisons, concatenations, and logic expressions.
  • Common Functions Use this folder to build expressions with common functions such as: Text, Date & Time, Math, Inspection, Program Flow, Aggregate, Financial, Conversion, Colors, as well as other miscellaneous functions.

Expression Workspace

Expressions are added to the workspace at the bottom of the Expression Editor window. To select operations and data values, find the desired item in the list and double click it to transfer it to the Expression workspace.

Expression Builder Action Buttons

Below are descriptions of actions performed when clicking on the buttons located at the bottom of the Expression Builder window.

 

  • Check Syntax Click this button to verify that the syntax of the expression is error free. If there is an error with the syntax a Syntax Error will display.
  • Save and Close Once the Expression has been added, click the Save and Close button to save the expression and return to the report design canvas.
  • Cancel and Close Click this button to cancel the expression build process and return to the report design canvas.
